May, 2008 CINOH's house mother who is in this video passed away in her sleep. Regina Ingram will be truly missed by CINOH's clients and its staff.

CINOH would like to thank Barbara Rodgers and CBS5 (KPIX-TV)for telling our story. May 31, 2008 Barbara will be leaving CBS 5. It was a pleasure for our organization to have a whole day with her and her camera crew. We wish her much success.

Children In Need of Hugs
A 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization.

We serve homeless young mothers ages 21 and under and provide them with transitional housing. We provide supportive services, training in parenting, budgeting and life skills.

The young mothers who enter into our program have been abused mentally, sexually and/or physically. Some are runaways who have lived with friends, in motels, cars and/or in abusive relationships. Most have very little or no family and financial support.

The young mothers are given shelter and they are able to obtain prenatal care, re-enter into the local school system, learn education, vocational and budgeting skills, but more importantly they learn to become self-sufficient with little or no support from social services.

We also serve foster youth who are aging out of care ages 18-21 who are at high risk of becoming homeless.

Studies show that few emancipated foster youth had entered college and more than a third had not completed high school. Approximately a quarter of emancipated foster youth have lived on the streets or shelters at some point.
Around half of emancipated foster youth were not employed. Nearly half had problems getting medical care most of the time.

Over 40% of emancipated foster youth had been pregnant or had a child.

To assist young mothers, like those described above, we collaborate with our community resources for counseling, case management and healthcare services.

C.I.N.O.H is funded by the  Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Family and Children.

We also rely on contributions from individuals. With those contributions we are able to provide a safe, stable and nurturing environment for these young mothers.
